In 2025, Sisters Network Chicago Chapter continued its commitment to advocacy, education, and support for those impacted by breast cancer through community outreach, strategic partnerships, and member engagement. We could not have done it without you. Click the tabs below to see our 2025 in review.
Serving Others
To volunteer, this year we:
- Hosted the annual Gift for Life Block Walk (GFLBW) in the Englewood community, welcoming 100+ participants (June 28, 2025).
- Participated in Sista Strut 2025, which drew over 8,000 attendees; the Mega Breast exhibit was featured and well-received.
- Participated in 25+ community outreach and engagement events throughout the year.
- Served as the host chapter for the national “Take Care of Sis” event held in Chicago (October 2025).
- Donated $250 to the Order of the Eastern Star.
- Donated $350 to Deborah’s Place in support of their annual Pink Party event.
Education
Here’s how we educated others:
- Participated in the Black Women’s Expo (3-day event):
- Over 1,000 attendees registered.
- Member Myrtis Brown served as a featured speaker on the breast cancer panel.
- Attended the ASCO Oncology Reception, sponsored by Gilead Sciences, held at The Palmer House (May 2025).
- Participated in the Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C., hosted by Susan G. Komen.
- Partnered with Advocate Community Wellness, Rush Hospital, and Roseland Community Hospital to support breast cancer education and awareness initiatives.
Fundraising
Our fundraisers:
- Hosted the annual Fashion Show Fundraiser, with 325 attendees:
- 50+ survivors participated in the Survivors Walk.
- Provided 5 complimentary tickets to breast cancer survivors.
- Provided financial assistance to 22 individuals through the Breast Cancer Assistance Program:
- Each recipient received $500 in support.
- Program sponsored by Bears Care.
- Received a $12,000 grant from Bears Care (Chicago Bears).
Membership
Membership activities:
- Recruited 8 new members and 2 associate members.
- Seven members attended the Bears Care Luncheon in Lake Forest, Illinois.
- Four members participated in the Sisters Network Inc. National 5K Walk (April 2025).
- Four members attended the Sisters Network Inc. National Summit (October 2025).
- Hosted a special reception honoring Karen E. Jackson, CEO of Sisters Network Inc. (June 1, 2025).
- Celebrated fellowship and sisterhood at our annual holiday event, “Pinkmas” Christmas Party.
