"City-Wide Free Mammogram Screenings"
The Illinois program that provides free mammogram screenings to uninsured women is chronically under funded and does not have enough money to cover services for even 10% of those who need them. This leads to long waitlists and fewer women receiving mammograms thereby increasing the amount of uninsured women across Metro Chicagoland walking among us with the possibility of having undiagnosed breast cancer. Their chance of survival decreases the longer these women go without a mammogram screening.
"In Chicago, an African American woman's chance of dying from breast cancer is 62% higher than her Caucasian counter part"
Beyond October! is a Metro-wide initiative that aims to emphasize the importance of mammograms beyond breast cancer month and will help to ease waitlists as we are expecting to have over 1,000 free mammograms to uninsured women in the Chicagoland area.
To sign up from your free mammogram, call: 312-942-1899. Our breast cancer awareness kickoff event will take place at Trinity United Church of Christ, October 31, 2013 (400 West 95th Street, Chicago, IL 60628). Community partners, individuals, and uninsured women in the Chicagoland area who are interested in learning more and signing up for a free mammogram should attend. Mammogram screenings will take place at hospitals across Chicagoland and will start after November 1st. We will continue to sign women up for screenings through January 2014 or until there are no more appointments available.
